Saturday morning we woke up and hopped on the Pacific Coast Highway to Monterey. Along the way, we stopped at a few pullouts, and swung into a farmers Market in Santa Cruz. We scored some fresh berries, kombucha, and a few treats. The kombucha was the best I have ever had.
Twice before, during our many trips to CA for Thanksgiving, we took the kids kayaking on Elkhorn Slough. I didn't want to pass up the opportunity for Sam and I do did it again, just ourselves. We suited up, and hopped in! But uhhhhhh, it sure was windy! Which made it wavy! And I wasn't a huge fan of that. We tried to stay by the banks as much as possible where it was more enjoyable and less scary, haha. At least the sun was out!
We collected ourselves after kayaking and finally made it all the way to Monterey. We checked into the Old St Angela Inn, and it was amazing!! Our room was really awesome, complete with a stove and radio which was playing oldies upon our arrival. We unpacked, toured the house and grounds, got a coffee and a snack, then got cleaned up and changed. Shakey Graves concert time!!!
Usually we see Shakey in Spokane, but when we were gifted the standby tickets, and asked where we wanted to go, I looked up Shakey's tour dates and locations and we decided on San Fran and Monterey. It was not only amazing to see my favorite in a new location, but it was really fun to be able to come back to CA and do a lot of the things we have done in years past. Who knows if we will ever go back.
Midnight at the Old St. Angela Inn is was so cozy. The gardens were all lit up. We snagged a tea and a treat, then enjoyed the warmth of the woodstove before bed! Couldn't ask for more.
With love,
Mama Hauck
