Gearing up for Garden Season!

We planted our carrots yesterday! Woo hoo!! We'll be able to get two plantings in this year, just like last. Yay. This go-around we're planting "Little Fingers" and "Parisian Market," both of which are a smaller size carrot and ready for harvest in about 60 days. Super fun! At our second planting, we will do the ones we did last year - "Denver Half Long" and "Tendersweet"

The kids have proved themselves to be fantastic little helpers! Papa poked the holes in the dirt, and the kids dropped in the seeds, little fingers on one side of the raised bed, parisian market on the other!  Done!

We are super excited its time to get the garden up and going!

Our raspberries are showing life, and our strawberries are looking pretty dang awesome too. Sam built them a bigger box and I'm excited to watch them grow and overtake the bigger box, just like they have their existing one.  I spent a fair amount of time picking off the dead and cleaning the box up. I can't wait to start seeing flowers, and then berries!

Sam built a few other new boxes too. One we've place against the fencing so we can plant beans and have them climb up the fence!  We've still got three other boxes we've got to figure out what to plant in. We're thinking onions in one for sure.

Last year we planted some pumpkin seeds out by our fruit trees and guest house, but we planted them late, and the deer wound up eating all the stems and leafs before an actual pumpkin could start anyway. Darn it! This year, we're ready! We tilled up a larger area, built a fence with pallet wood and a door with old fencing, and I've got our seeds all ready with a huge sticky note labeled JUNE. We'll be getting pumpkins this year!

Right now we can't plant anything more until we borrow our neighbor's tractor to get more dirt/manure from our pile over by the barn to fill up the remaining boxes. That's just too much work to do with a few shovels and a wheelbarrow! Hopefully soon that'll get done and then we can move on from there!

Eand of the Season Wrestling Banquet

Yesterday we had our Goldednale Grappler's wrestling banquet! We pigged out on pizza, chips, salad, fruit, and various other tasty goodies!

We made sure to get photos of all the Grapplers! First we got all the kids that participated in the tournaments - 9 of them (1 was missing)! Then we got the whole team in the photo. We really have such an awesome group of kids!!

The whole team worked so hard and made great progress throughout the wrestling season! Each kid on the Grapplers team received a certificate and a medal. All those that participated in the tournaments received a trophy. While, in general, we're not huge on the idea of participation medals, I think in this case it was awesome and a nice gesture of hard work recognized.

We are very proud of the children for all their work, and for Anthony's perseverance through the tournament season. We are hoping next year might hold a tournament medal for that hard working boy!

Looking forward to next year, but ready for some down time!!

Great job, Grapplers!

Happy Easter

The Friday before Easter, we dyed our Easter Eggs! I think these are my favorite eggs yet, they turned out super pastel and pretty! Great job, kiddos!

Last year Anthony learned there wasn't really an Easter Bunny. That was sad for him (and us), but because of this, he could now participate in the Easter set up! He stayed up after the other two had fallen asleep and got to help out, which he was totally excited about. He helped hide a few eggs outside, fill and arrange Molly and Tim's Easter Baskets, and leave a candy trail. He got a kick out of helping, and I'm thankful he's been a good sport and a big boy and not spilled the beans to Mols and Tim.

After Anthony had gone to bed and fallen asleep, I put his basket out and wrote him a personal thank you note for being such a kind helper.

After baskets, we had an Easter Egg hunt inside with the eggs we dyed! I love watching the kids run around trying to find the eggs! No one dropped one either (except me that is)! Breakfast was simple: toast, bacon, sausage, and hash-browns.

After breakfast, we headed outside for the real Easter Egg hunt! Those eggs had candy and money in them! Usually we do this hunt inside, but as the kids get older, we've done more eggs and it's been fun to spread them out over a bigger area. Plus, the weather was super nice!

Anthony had only hidden 5 eggs the previous night, so it was still fun for him to run around finding eggs. Timothy found the most eggs, but Anthony found the hardest one - in the lantern hanging on the tree! And Molly wound up collecting the most money!

The remainder of the day was such a nice and mellow one. We really love being able to stay home for Easter! We watched two movies - "Sing" and "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." We also had a lot of outside play time and got in some yard work while too Sammy smoked ribs on the smoker for dinner! YUM!

Happy Easter, love our little Hunny Bunnies!
