When the kids were younger, Sam and I would put them to bed, wait till they were asleep, shut their doors, and then stuff their stockings and lay out Santa gifts right away. Maybe they'd get up in the middle of the night for a peak, maybe not. But at least they were in bed, asleep, and never caught us in the act of putting things out.
Now a days....I am too old, and too tired, to be waiting for them to fall asleep, lol. They live a whole other life come night time. Instead, I set my alarm for 2 in the morning. I hung their nicely stuffed stockings back up on their doors, placed out Santa gifts, ate the cookies, but dumped the warm milk that the cats probably got into, and then stood in the living room and had a good cry.
Perfect.
We told the Grandparents to come over at 9, this gave Sam and I time to wake up early, shower, get breakfast going, and the kids a chance to sleep a little bit and do Santa gifts and their stockings, just themselves, like they wanted. I loved watching them all come out of their rooms, just as excited as if they were still little kids, and check out what Santa brought.
Christmas morning breakfast is one of those things that stay the same. A couple different types of quiche, cheesy smokies, and homemade blueberry muffins. Once the grandparents arrived, we wasted no time digging in. It is one of my favorite things to eat Sam's delicious quiche and my blueberry muffin, sitting in the living room.
Present time! Anthony got a gun he had been wanting for some time now. Timothy also got a gun for Christmas this year! A black powder one, so he can go hunting with Sam next Fall, after he completes his hunter safety course. The guns and their accessories were their main gifts, but the boys also received some new clothing items, as well as fun things, of course. Molly got a lot of items she had been wanting, including a nail kit so she can do her nails, and a lot of accessories for her car. Definitely think the kids were happy with their gifts this year.
After presents, we did a quick clean up job, then got out the snacks. Cathy spent some time playing the piano, the boys shot their guns, all the kids spent time in their rooms organizing and showing off their new gear, playing online with their friends, etc. Sam got the lasagna going in the oven, I made my cherry dump cake, and we watched Earnest Saves Christmas, and A Muppet Christmas Carol. We just hung out, enjoying the day.
Christmas dinner this year was something we hadn't done before; homemade lasagna, garlic bread, and caesar salad. Sam did an amazing job on the lasagna, it was delicious. Molly's friend Jaydee drove out for dinner, so that was nice for her to join us. Then, of course, after eating way too much dinner, we ate way too many sweets. And eating the sweets continued well into the evening time, lol.
Everyone left. The kids were Christmas vibing in their rooms. The house was quiet. And life felt good.
