Anth's CWU Orientation

Yesterday, Sammy and I took Anthony to his new student orientation at CWU where he would meet with his advisor and pick his classes for the fall. Anthony was a bit anxious, but we had filled our bellies with a delicious breakfast from a local cafe, grabbed a cold coffee, the sun was shining, and the weather was gorgeous. We just knew it was going to be a good day!

After all the introductory speeches, we headed off for the first advisory meeting with some people from the aviation department, including the main aviation department head advisor, Chris. At the end, we went up to introduce ourselves and ask questions. Always a good thing to do. We really wanted to speak with Chris, but he was busy chatting with other people, so we asked our questions and spoke with another lady in the department instead.

This past fall, 200+ students applied for the Professional Pilot’s Program BS, but there were only 65 spots, Anthony didn't make it this cycle, so his plan was to work on his Aviation Management BS and then reapply during the next cycle this fall. While chatting with the lady, she acted surprised Anthony didn't get in based off his GPA and the content of his essay. We were like yeah, same! Lol But Anthony wasn't dismayed, and he was determined to try again. She gave us some helpful suggestions on what he could do for the next cycle's application process, and we thanked her for our time. We continued on to accomplish some other to-do's.

A little later, we were heading for lunch, when Sam thought he and Anthony should swing by and see if Chris was still in the room where we had the advisory meeting. I decided to sit in the grass and make a few phone calls. Luckily for us, he was. During the process of introducing themselves and chatting, Chris realized who Anthony was, and Sam and Anthony learned that he had been highlighted as being at the top of the waitlist. He was going to be contacted today to be offered a spot....they just didn't know Anthony was indeed Anthony when we were all in the advisory meeting!

We literally had no idea Anthony was even on the waitlist, let alone the top. No one had ever told us. So imagine our great surprise when he was offered a spot in the Professional Pilot’s Program right then and there, by the aviation department head advisor, in person!! It was wild.

Anthony shook his hand, and officially accepted. When I saw them walking out of the building, they both had the biggest grin on their faces. I, of course, had already been crying happy tears in the grass because Sam had text me right as it happened, lol.

Just a short while later, after a delicious lunch, we met Chris again and got Anthony's schedule and flight plan all squared away. He will be flying every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday come the start of college! EEKKK!

We are still in such a state of happy shock that this all happened.

To top off an already great day, before heading for home, we were able to meet up with Anthony's roommate and roommate’s mother for lunch to get to know each other and talk dorm. Sweet!

Seriously the best day ever. We are beyond proud of Anthony, and so very excited for him.

I can’t believe he will start flying in just a few short months. Isn't that insane!?

We are feeling very thankful. ❤️ Go Wildcats!!!

With love,                                                                                                                Mama Hauck
