Florida Trip, Days 4-5

Day 4!

Paul took us all on base so we could pick up his boat from the marina he keeps it at and boat it back to his house. It was cool to finally be on the boat and see the different bayous and greater area on our way back to his personal dock. The kids really dug the ride!

Since Paul had to then take his lady friend, Kim, to a Dr. appointment, we decided to take the kids to the Air Force Armament Museum. I think this was one of Timothy's favorite activities. He insisted on taking a picture of almost every aircraft plaque outside and then a photo of the aircraft itself so that he could bring them to school and show his teacher and friends. I thought this was going to be a quick in and out, but we were there for about 2 hours! There was just so much to see, both inside and outside. Anthony loved it because he loves war history and everything that goes with it, and Timothy loved it because anything dealing with the Armed Forces is cool. The overall crowd favorite was the gun room and all the different missiles and bombs. Definitely a recommended stop for anyone in the area.

Since we still had daylight hours to kill while we waited for Paul and Kim to get home, and the kids had been itching to swim, we took them to the community pool that's in the neighborhood Paul lives in. It was about 75* out, so do-able for a Washingtonian, but there was no sun and the pool was definitely not heated. So it was pretty much like swimming at Timothy Lake in June, hahaha. The boys were more excited about the idea of swimming than actually swimming, lol. But they swam for about 15-20 minutes and then we called it good. The surrounding neighbors sure got a kick out it! There were a few that peeked their heads out their doors to figure out who the hell would be swimming in December. haha I had to explain that we aren't from around here.

After the pool and getting cleaned up and some food in our bellies, since Paul and Kim still weren't back yet, we decided to take a drive to the beach by the pier we had walked on previously that week. I wanted to do a night time beach walk and everyone was on board with that! I am a huge beach lover, but had never walked a beach at night time, so this was a spectacular event for me! I think we all had a great time. Toes in the sand, party lights off the hotels and restaurants, and ocean waves crashing. It was perfection. If I had that just down the road, I'd be out there every day.

When we got back to the house, we were glad to see Paul and Kim had made it home! We ate some dinner and then Paul invited us for a night time boat ride around the bayou. Heck yes! Night time boat rides are super fun! Timothy came with, and Pauls son, Conner, played captian. I enjoyed seeing all the christmas lights people still had up on their houses and docks.

Day 5!

Happy birthday, Sammy!

Since the weather and waves weren't 100% ideal for island hopping on the boat like we had hoped to do, we decided the Aquarium was a good birthday idea. It wasn't huge like the Monterey Bay Aquarium we've been to a few times on our Thanksgiving trips to CA, but we don't have any around us....I think closest one is Seattle, and we've never been to that one, so definitely no complaints on the size from us. They had a lot of cool exhibits there, including alligators, penguins, seals, sea lions, dolphins, birds, and all your typical fish. We were able to watch a dolphin show as well as a sea lion show. Pretty cool. It was a good time.

When we got back to the house, we really wanted to go out to dinner for Sam's birthday, but there was no place that had enough seating for all of us on New Years Eve. So instead Paul and Kim made dinner while we relaxed and watched the boys fish off the dock. Timothy even fished this time! It was soooo nice to just sit there on the dock and relax the day into evening.

As it got darker, the big kids continued to fish, and Timothy broke out the sparklers! He and Sam went through a few boxes of sparklers while we waited for dinner to finish up. Timothy is now a sparkler pro, by the way.

Finally, cake time! Paul and Kim were so kind to go out and get Sam a birthday cake! It was such a thoughtful gesture, and the perfect way to end a really fun day.

Happy birthday! 40 years old!

Still more to come!

With love,
Mama Hauck
