Timothy lake Camping June 29th-July 2nd

We enjoyed our second camping trip of the summer recently! This time it was warmer....not quite as warm as it normally should be, but at least warmer than our last camping trip!

We of course enjoyed lots of smores, hobo-sandwiches, hot dogs, and my new favorite while camping, taco salads. Papa has become a pro at camp stove eggs and hash-browns. All the kids took turns learning how to chop kindling (Anthony was a fine teacher.....though I had my heart in my throat the entire time), as well as working on how to set up and start a fire.

Saturday night we enjoyed a "campfire chat" in the common area, put on my local rangers, where we played a few rounds of Oregon/Washington trivia. We were one point away from winning! Darn it! The kids still got prizes of course. And we walked away with tons of knowledge for future trivia nights.....and a smokey the bear chip bag clip. Hahaha. Win!

Lets see, what else. We knew, from camping just 2 weeks prior (because her husband, Josh, told us so!), that it was going to be the camp host's birthday while we were there, so we got Barb a slice of chocolate cake. The kids got a kick out of delivering that to her and singing happy birthday, lol!

This go around we fished some more, as we always do while camping. We thought maybe with some new fishing gear, some new bait (even worms!), and a little luck, we might catch a fish this time, but nope. We could SEE the fish, but they just weren't biting. Oh well. We took the worms home and they found a new home in our garden beds. Beats a fish's belly.

The kids were excited to be able to swim this trip! I wouldn't say the water was "warm," but the 75* and sunshine felt so great, it didn't matter. I do think the favorite of any camping trip, for the kids, is being able to play in the water. They are all getting braver; even Timothy went out in the kayak a bit (he was tied off of course!). Anthony and Molly had a ball giving each other rides on the back of the orange kayak and "rescuing" each other form the stump, haha. Even Sam and I got in the water this trip! Brr!! But, it's not so bad after you dunk. Just do it quickly or you lose your nerve to go under, lol.

We took another hike, probably a couple miles, across the dam and to check out the other side of Timothy Lake. Along the way, the kids found a little bridge and took the opportunity to explore. I love going on hikes there. One of these days Sam and I will camp by ourselves so we can hike farther....you can only go so far until someone is complaining of being tired, thirsty, or their legs hurting! Any by someone, I mean Tim.

My favorite part of this camping trip was taking the time to go check out Little Crater Lake and Frog Lake. Little Crater Lake is just a small trek back and it is absolutely crystal clear and beautiful. We loved it! A gal even offered to take a family photo for us, which was so kind of her! A little past Little Crater Lake is part of the Pacific Crest Trail, so we wandered around on that for a bit and jumped logs and rocks and such.

Our next stop was Frog Lake, named so because it has tons of frogs living in it! Well, it will anyway. For now, they're just tad poles. And A LOT of them! Timothy was the tad pole catching king! He was so proud of himself! The view of Mt. Hood from Frog Lake is stunning. I'm thinking, for my upcoming birthday, we'll head on up there for a picnic and a day of play.

Two camping trips down, one more to go this summer! Then we actually get to go twice in September! Lucky us!

With love,
Mama Hauck
