Catherine Creek with the Grandparents

The kiddos had their Spring Break this past week. Not only did we enjoy a visit from our friend Tommy in MN for a few days, but Grandma and Grandpa from CA came to visit as well! It was a fully house there for a bit.

We got lucky with nice weather on Tuesday, so we decided on a hike. Since we had just done the Crawford Oaks hike with Tommy, we decided on the Catherine Creek hike with Grandma and Grandpa since they hadn't done that one yet.

We first hiked up the Catherine Creek trail which gives you a spectacular view of the Columbia River when you reach the top. After making our way back down to the main road, we decided to walk the lower Catherine Creek loop as well, which is paved. This loop has many informational signs that talk about the different flowers that can be found in the area (no flowers yet!), as well as notes about the ecosystem in general in that area. We were treated to views of the Columbia, and even found a snake! It just started to sprinkle on us as we were reaching the end of the loop. Perfect timing.

It's been quite rainy here the past 5 days or so, with lots more rain in the foreseeable forecast. I'm thinking no more hikes for a bit......but hopefully all this rain will persuade the balsam root and lupine to get their act in gear. We are patiently waiting for the hills to explode with color so we can take our yearly drive to admire all the beauty Spring has to offer!

Crawford Oaks, First Hike of the Season!

We took advantage of the beautiful weather yesterday and went for our first hike of the season! We headed to a spot we've hiked many times before and know the kiddos can do with ease, Crawford Oaks. Our friend Tommy is visiting us for the week from MN, so it was nice to be able to take him on a hike with us. Fanny packs packed with snacks and my camera in hand, we were ready to get out of the house!

The flowers aren't out yet, so we weren't treated to fields of balsam root and lupine, but we were treated to plenty of sunshine, 65*, and spectacular blue skies. The water was definitely flowing, which made for a few spots of water hopping for us and swimming for Daisy!

A wonderful hike with all of my wonderful people! Looking forward to much more hiking this year!
