15th Anniversary Getaway

Sammy and I recently celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary on April 5th. I don't know how it's been that long already.....'cause I don't feel that old.....but here we are, so I guess I am!

Last year we weren't able to go do anything due to Covid, but this year, with things being a bit better, we were able to book a 2 night stay at Skamania Lodge in Stevenson, WA. We left on the 4th, which was Easter.... remember the whole reason we had Fake Easter on the 3rd, haha, and stayed the night of the 4th, and our actual anniversary, the 5th.

The lodge is beautiful, and so are the views. I loved that our room had a fireplace and a view of the Columbia River. The staff even brought us a bottle of champagne! We were definitely feeling pretty special, haha.

Not only did we book a 2 night getaway, but we also got to go ziplining! The lodge has a ziplining course that apparently is quite popular. I didn't even know until recently, but when I found out, I knew it was going on the bucket list.  After checking into the hotel, we had little time to kill before our zipline tour! I was so excited!! Our group was small, which made it super awesome. The ladies running the tour were so chill and nice. We had the best time!! I didn't get photos, except for before we started when we were gearing up, because I didn't want to carry my camera on me, so that's a bummer. Luckily they had a few camera spots and you could purchase their photos, so we did get a couple of us in action. We seriously had the best time. I would definitely do that again, and bring the kids! Hopefully we can make that happen sometime in the future.

After ziplining, we enjoyed a delicious pizza and bacon braised brussel sprouts in their dining room before settling in for the night to enjoy the views and fireplace.

The next morning we rose to a beautiful sunrise and wasted no time getting ourselves ready for the day ahead. We ate breakfast out at a nearby restaurant by the Bridge of the Gods and then decided on a hike for that day's activity!

We've always wanted to hike Beacon Rock. I'm not quite sure why we hadn't ever made it there yet, but I'm sure glad we finally did. It was such a cool hike! Tons of switchbacks going up the rock, lots of wooden bridges, and definitely plentiful views. The kids would love this hike. It's on the list to do with them this summer. It was a tad chilly, but the sun was out and there was no wind. Couldn't have asked for better weather. We truly enjoyed our time on our hike. It's a good one to pack a lunch for, so you can find a spot to pull off the trail and enjoy a lunch with those views.

When we got back to the lodge, we sat for a long while in the front yard, having a few drinks and soaking up the sun and views. It was a nice after hike break! Later on we walked the grounds, exploring some of the small trails around the lodge, before getting cleaned up and heading out for dinner.

I can't even remember the name of the place we went to dinner at, but Sammy enjoyed a burger and I a pair of salmon cakes! Not the fanciest of places to go for your anniversary dinner, but we're not fancy, so it's ok. And the salmon cakes were surprisingly good, so no complaints here.

Back at the lodge, we enjoyed some more hang time in the yard as we watched the evening roll in. We also managed to make a visit to the pool room where we enjoyed the hot tub for a bit. And finally, lounging in front of the fireplace, stuffing our faces with dessert, was the perfect ending to the day!

It's always hard to check out of a hotel, especially one as nice as Skamania Lodge. At first we were going to skip on breakfast, but then we thought better of it. Good thing too....their waffles were amazing!

And, being ones to always want to get our money's worth, we didn't leave the hotel room until exactly check out time, hahaha.

Thanks for the good time, Lover! Wouldn't want to spend it with anyone other than you.

Happy 15th anniversary!

With love,
Mama Hauck
