Timothy Lake Camping, Aug 19th-22nd

We took our last camping trip of the year this past weekend. We headed back to my favorite place to camp, Timothy Lake, and even better, to my favorite spot, #25.

Over all we had a good time, you can't help but love being there, but I'll be honest, this trip was a bit of a let down. For me anyway. I'm not saying we didn't have fun, just that it wasn't what I was hoping for for our last camping trip of the year.

The weather was cold for being August, it was mostly overcast the entire time, it rained on us once, we couldn't have a wood burning fire (just a propane one), and with my broken toe, there was no hiking going on because I was in pain most of the time. We mostly sat around and played card games covered in blankets, or tried to stay warm in front of the small propane fire. For three nights and two days. The kids did kayak and fish, and there was a short dunk or two in the water (I have no idea how they got in the water, it never got above 65 the whole time we were there!), but this wasn't normal August camping, and everyone was feeling that. We missed the sun and the sound of kids splashing around in the water all day. Sam didn't seem to mind sitting around and truly have a relaxing camping trip where we mostly did nothing, but I was upset to not be able to do any hiking and to be mostly confined to a damn chair nursing my broken toe.

Oh well. Nothing is ever perfect. We got out of the house to my favorite place and we hung out with friends. Can't control the weather or the fire ban, just need to roll with the punches.

I think this was the very first time that everyone felt ready to head home at the end of our stay, hahaha. Besides, we had Packer Orchard's ice cream and other goodies calling our name for on the drive home!

Despite this trip being not as I had planned, camping at Timothy Lake makes my heart feel full and it's always hard to pull out and say goodbye, knowing we wont return until next summer. The kids will be a whole year older. Time just keeps chugging along. We are so thankful for these camping trips and look forward to many  more summers of fun.

With love,
Mama Hauck
