Shakey Graves and The Avett Brothers

We just got back from a week long getaway, first to Portland to see my favorite musician, Shakey Graves, play at the Oregon Zoo, and then to Bend to see our favorite band, The Avett Brothers, play at the Les Schwab Amphitheater.

We had a BLAST!!

Last Friday, it took a bit of work to get to the zoo venue in Portland....some of the max lines were being worked on, so we had to take a few different max lines and even a bus before arriving at the zoo, instead of it being a straight shot on just one max line. Lol, it was an adventure getting there for sure, but we made and there and back to the hotel in one piece!

The zoo's venue is awesome. We bought seat tickets, but even if you didn't buy seat tickets and you just had general admission in the back lawn, you could still see. And everyone had the option of going and standing in the front by the stage. Definitely a "homey" feeling venue and would recommend going to a concert there!

Shakey Graves was amazing!! Like, the best!! We had great seats with a great view, and also took turns making our way through the crowd in the front for a better view and show. Now that was fun!! Shakey played a great mix of older and newer songs that we all sang along to. The kids had an absolute blast at their first ever concert and that made Sammy and I so happy! We seriously had an amazing time. Lord Huron played after Shakey and they were equally amazing. We know a few of their songs, but need to listen to more.

Definitely a night to remember.

Next up, The Avett Brothers! This past Tuesday, we were fortunate enough to see The Avett Brothers at the Les Schwab Amphitheater was also a nice venue, but I didn't like it as much. The whole field was general admission, which was just fine, but our comfy cozy spot in the grass in the middle-front we managed to secure turned to crap when everyone in front of and all around us stood up, and then more and more people kept pushing through and filing in all around us. I thought the people standing in the concrete right in front of the stage would be the standing ones, and everyone all cozy in the grass would remain sitting to chill. Guess not. So we moved way back in the grass and then could see the stage...from faaaarrr off lol. But that's ok, we were there to chill and listen to the music and that's what we did! Besides, we took turns fighting the crowd closer to the front to get a better view and show.

The Avett Brothers put on an amazing concert! Besides the fact that Molly lost a tooth mid-concert and Timothy blew kettle corn chunks in the porta-potty (thankfully he felt perfect after that, lol), we had a super fun night! The kids really got into it, especially Anthony when I took him with me and we snaked through the crowd to the front a bit more. He was so excited to get closer and be able to see them! Timothy was happy they played his favorite song, "Ain't No Man" and even more excited that I was in the front for that part and got it on video for him! Molly was her Papa's sidekick and she got to go to the front a few times with him to get a closer view.

Another night for the memory books!

I am so thankful for this chance to take the kids to see some of our favorite musicians! I'm glad we were able to take them to their first concerts, and over the moon that we all had such an amazing time. The shit eating grins on their faces was totally worth it!!

I think we're ready for more! : )

With love,
Mama Hauck
