The Dalles Cherry Festival

This past Saturday we enjoyed the day in The Dalles, OR at the annual Cherry Festival!

We've gone with the kids before, but always to just walk around and check things out. We never splurged on actually spending a full day there to ride all the carnival rides and indulge ourselves on fair food because it gets spendy fast. But, you know, I was ready to break out of my cancer treatment funk and have some fun.

Unfortuantely, Anthony had a track meet, so he was unable to join us, but Timothy invited his friend CJ to go, and we also wound up picking two of Molly's friends up for her to hang out with. So everyone had a buddy!

When we arrived, the parade was going on, so we found a spot on the sidewalk to enjoy the parade. We checked out the car show, then walked some vendor booths. But of course the highlight of the day was the rides, so after making the kids wait long enough, we headed on over to the carnival area.

The girls went off by themselves, and the boys wasted no time figuring out what they wanted to ride first. I sat some rides out, allowing Sam and the boys to use most of the tickets to get their fill of fun, but I did go on a couple!

It got busy very quickly, which means a lot of our time was spent waiting in ride lines, but that was ok. Sam and I took turns holding a long line, while the boys went off and did a ride that didn't have a long line, or one of us went and got a bite to eat or a drink. It all worked out. My favorite part of the day was riding the Pirate Ship ride, and watching Timothy ride the mechanical bull!

After a long day out in the sun, we were more than ready to head home. We were so pooped out, we could hardly walk the few blocks back to the car! I'm really glad we decided to splurge on the Cherry Festival. It was great to see the kids having fun.

With love,
Mama Hauck
