Ready for Christmas!

The kids are now a week into winter break, and Christmas is right around the corner! EEKK!! We've been getting into the spirit with lots of Christmas fun!

This is the first year we've ever made sugar cookies! I used Alton Brown's recipe, so I knew I couldn't go wrong, lol. The kids were pretty excited to decorate the cookies. I only wish I had better decorating choices! I was late to the game in picking up decorating stuffs at the store, so it was pretty slim pickings. Next year I'll do better. The white bottle frosting was ok, but next time we'll just use regular cake frosting and a butter knife to spread. I wasn't a fan of the green and red decorating gel....it was pretty sticky. At least the sprinkles were good, lol. And the cookies themselves, delicious! Thanks, Alton. The kids did a great job decorating. First year of decorating sugar cookies, success!

My Aunt Amy came out for a two night visit! Awesome! She stayed in the guest cabin! We mostly hung out, relaxed, and watched Christmas movies, since Sammy still had to work this past week.  One night during her visit, we did have Grandma Cathy and some friends over for pizza. It was nice to entertain! Thanks for making the trip out to us, Aunt Amy!

Per tradition, Molly and Timothy made reindeer food! Anthony has decided that he's too old for this activity, and that's alright. I'm thinking, once the time comes where all the kids decide they no longer want to make reindeer food, I'll still make it, haha. Ohhhh I can't wait to dump it all out in the yard!

Every year we like to make a few different kinds of cookies. Along with the sugar cookies the kiddos decorated, we made peanut butter blossoms, chocolate dipped strawberries, and peanut butter balls. YUM! We definitely should have made a double batch of each. Poor Santa will be lucky if there's any left for him tomorrow night!

The house is looking more and more like Christmas!

Our "Christmas card door" is filling up! I loooooove checking the mail each day and getting a card or two to add to the door! Every year, once Christmas is over, I take all the cards and turn them into a little card book. This way we have all these Christmas card books to look back on!

Mols and Tim have decorated the house with their many school crafts. When it's time to take everything down, we'll box them up with all the Christmas stuff to put up in the years to come. You should see the old Christmas crafts we have from Anthony and Molly from years past. Adorable!! I'm a sucker for a good 'ol hand made kiddo craft.

We're ready for Christmas!

The most exciting part about winter break thus far has been the "surprise" snow! We feared we were going to have a green Christmas, as for a while now there was no snow in the forecast. And then, last night, while we drove to Grandma Cathy's for dinner and a drive around town to see the Christmas lights, it started to snow! Ahhhh the kids were soooo excited!!! This morning we woke up to about 4 inches! Not a ton, but totally so much better than not having any at all!

After breakfast we dug out our snow suits and went outside to play. The snow was so light and fluffy! It was awesome! We about died watching Daisy play in the snow for the first time! She loved it! She ran around all crazy and "helped" Anthony sled down the front yard, haha.

I love our home with snow. So beautiful.

Hooray for Winter break fun!! We are totally ready for Christmas!!

With love,
Mama Hauck
