Grandview Tournament: 03-25-17

This past Saturday was Anthony's 4th tournament held in Grandview, WA. Grandma from CA is currently here, so was able to attend with us, and that made him very happy and excited!

He didn't get a placement this tournament, but he won his first of three matches, and really, any win he gets under his belt is fantastic! It was a great and exciting day for others on his team though! Two members that have never gotten a win finally won their first matches! One even went on winning and wound up placing 3rd in her weight division! So exciting to watch our team wrestle and take delight in their personal wins!

Anthony's 1st match - a win.

Anthony did very well in this match, taking control right away and never relinquishing it. He put into practice some moves he's been working on and executed them beautifully. It was great to watch!

Anthony's 2nd match - a loss.

This was a tough one. We've noticed that if Anthony losses a match, it's because he got stuck in a cradle or a head lock and wasn't able to get out. So he's got a bit of work to do with learning how to get out of those and back up, or the steps to take to not get stuck in one to begin with. That's what happened with this match.

Anthony's 3rd match - a loss.

Again, a tough one. I only have a few photos because he was taken down right away and got stuck in a cradle and pinned during the first round, so not much time to take photos, lol.

The one thing I can say about Anthony is that he never gives up. He gives it his all the whole way through. He continues to have high spirits and learn from his losses, instead of feeling defeated, giving up, and loosing his spirit.

We are so, so proud of this boy!

Next up, Granger!

Lean On Me

Molly finally allowed me to come into her voice lesson room at the end of her lesson this past Thursday so I could listen in on her performance of "Lean On Me."

I cried at the end.

Keep singing, my sweet little songbird.

Be Our Guest, The Hauck Homestead Cabin

We've finally got our "little" guest cabin ready for it's first occupant! Eek, I'm so so excited! I'm thinking my calling in life is to run a small bed and breakfast. Except Sam will do the cooking, hahaha, and I'll do everything else.

For years now we've been saving to build ourselves a guest cabin. We got the concrete poured for it last summer, but that's as far as we've gotten. Time and money, you know. Me, thinking that 3 years is long enough for me to patiently wait for a guest cabin so my dad and others don't have to sleep on our couch, went about seeking what I could do to offer guests a nicer place to stay while we continue to save up for our "real" guest cabin!

We got super lucky and scored a small outbuilding for a super price from friends who were looking to clear if from their driveway. It took a bit of work to get it loaded, transferred, and then unloaded in our yard, but the task was completed. We gutted it and then Sam got to work wiring, insulating, and putting up the tongue-and-groove blue pine walls and ceiling.

Since getting the bones of it finished this past September, I've been slowing adding my decorating touches and getting it ready. It's been super fun! Goodwill, Salvation Army, and yard sales have supplied me with most of what I've needed to clean up, repurpose, and decorate with.

We've still got a bit of work to do on it though, inside and out. I want to paint the door and trim a new color, maybe that royal blue color. The existing door is just yuck looking, so please pay no mind to it! I want to purchase a screen door to install too. We have to trim the windows, and eventually we want to put railings up on the deck as well. For the inside, we've got to figure out what type of flooring we want in it. For the time being, we just have a big rug in there that doesn't cover all of the floor (so bring your slippers!). We also need to get a piece of mirror to go in the frame I've got hung up for that purpose, and get a new space heater (since the pretty faux fire one we had in there was defective). Just small things to wrap up!

For your lounging convenience, take a load off in the antique chair I bought at the Coast for Sammy two summers back, and read by sunlight (or salt lamp glow!) one of our awesomely cool Pacific Northwest nature books. We also welcome you to robe up and take a dip in our hot tub that's just a hop, skip, and a jump away!

We found a really nice old full size bedroom set, complete with a few dressers, bedside table, and vanity at a garage sale.  There was no room for the vanity in here, darn it, so that'll go in the "real" guest cabin in the future. We hope guests will sleep soundly in a full size bed! Think of it as cozy instead of small, haha, couples are forced to snuggle. ;) I've always loved the red and black hunter plaid look for a cabin, so I searched high and low and found the perfect cabin bedding. I was really excited to score tons of old frames at Goodwill and transform them, with the help of spray paint, into something nice to display my photography (which is all local photos by the way!). Oh, and when staying, don't forget to sign our guest book!

Coffee and tea is a daily morning ritual in our home, but I wanted our guests to be able to make their own when they woke up, just in case they wanted to enjoy a cup in the cabin before making their way to the house. We've supplied a coffee maker and jug of water to brew their coffee, or just run the water through and heat it if tea is wanted.  I've also included all the goodies one might wish to put in their coffee or tea, as well as extra drinks and some snacks. Actually, I'm forgetting the Baileys for the coffee. Note to self: get Baileys.

Ideally, I'd eventually like to get a mini fridge in there somewhere. But maybe not. That might have to wait until we get our "real" guest house built that'll have the space for it.

And for those that want to brush up on their Bigfoot knowledge or play a game or two, I've got a nice selection of Bigfoot books and a few games, including our home made tic-tac-toe. Bigfoot lives around here, you know.

I still need to get a piece of mirror to fit into the large white frame, but other than that, I think I've satisfied the basic dry amenity needs one might have. I say dry because obviously there's no bathroom, lol. You can help yourself to gum, mints, wipes, makeup remover, lint roller, lotion, hand sanitizer, cough drops, tissues, first aid kit and basic painkillers, nail clippers, hand warmers, etc. etc.....but to go potty or take a shower, you've got to trek to the house! Which isn't all that far, so no need to fret. We're hoping to build an out house in the future, which will take care of the potty needs, but guests will always have to trek to the house if a shower is wanted.

Shall I start accepting reservations!? We are so excited to have a little place for family and friends to stay when they come visit! I can't wait to play host!
