Pumpkin Patch 2015

We visited the pumpkin patch yesterday! 

We usually go to Schell's Corn Maze and Fun Land in Toppenish, WA, but sadly (well, not sad for them, but sad for us because we loved it so much!) the couple who ran the place retired. So the search for a new one was on!

We had intended to go to Bill's Berry Farm in Grandview, WA, but they're closed on Sundays. Darn it. So we wound up heading to Thompson's Farm in Nachese, WA. I must say, it was a super cute place. Lots of activities for the whole family. Thompson's Farm has an awesome set up and it gave you that fun and festive feeling of Fall with music playing and decorations and such. Everyone was friendly.

BUT....too expensive in my humble opinion. $0.50 a lb for pumpkins is a bit steep. Especially for those families with a lot of kiddos or ones who want bigger pumpkins, like us. We loaded on up, before knowing the price per lb, and then wound up putting the 2 biggest pumpkins back after the weigh in. So only the kiddos got pumpkins because we honestly couldn't afford it. As it was, we spent $30 on just those 3 pumpkins! Yikes, ridiculous. We won't do that again. We would have put them all back and gone in search of smaller ones, but it rained on us the whole time we were there and we didn't want to make the trek back to the pumpkin patch, so we kept what we had for the kiddos.

I was also disappointed that you had to pay for tickets for each activity. That made me sad. $2 per person to walk the corn maze....$2 to shoot nuts out of a cannon....$2 for a hay ride.....and so on and so forth. That will totally add up to some serious money spent. I asked the lady who checked us out why they did it that way, and she said it's because they don't charge for parking or admission. Well....I guess I should just be glad I didn't have to pay to park in the large, open field then? Haha I mean, I don't know the first thing about running a place like that and what needs to be charged to make a profit, but I do know we can't enjoy all the fun Thompson's Farm has to offer on our family of 5's budget.  We payed so much for the pumpkins and then spent $8 on a dozen donuts, we didn't have any cash left for the kids to do any of the activities.

With all that said, if you've got the cash and don't mind paying, Thompson's Farm is for you. I told the kiddos if we choose to go there again next year, we will either get smaller pumpkins, or do pumpkins elsewhere so we can actually have the cash to enjoy the activities they have there. They all agreed on that plan. 

We DID have a good time though! The kids loved their time in the pumpkin patch picking out pumpkins, and the little bit of rain actually made it more fun. ;) The donuts they have there are also divine. Seriously. Just like the ones I had growing up when I went with my family to the pumpkin patch.
