The Camping Trip That Wasn't

This past Friday we were all packed up and ready to go camping! Once Sammy was done with work, we drove out to Timothy Lake, confident that even without a reservation, we would nab a walk-in spot.

What were we thinking!? The camp ground host told us all the walk-in spots were taken by 9am. Bummer! We spent 3 hours and a whole tank of gas driving around to like 9 different camp grounds around the Mt. Hood area. Every spot in every camp ground, including walk-ins, were full.

Bummer.

Sooooo after a long day of driving around, we drove back to town and had an outdoor dinner and movie night at our friends Kurt and Tracie's house! We made up the chicken, pepper, and pineapple ka-bobs that we were suppose to have while camping, and settled in to watch a funny movie on the big screen outside. They made their own outdoor theater and it's pretty dang awesome.

Afterwards, we still got to enjoy a few smores courtesy of their super cool fire ring! Yum yum. Camping or not, I got my smore!

By the time we decided to call it a night, it was 1am. Yikes! This Mama hasn't stayed up that late in a very long time. The thought of driving 25 minutes home didn't sound so great, so we crashed in their spare bedroom instead. Definitely a fun ending to a day that didn't turn out as planned!  Tracie even made us breakfast in the morning. Thanks Tracie!

The rest of the weekend, since you know, we weren't camping, we decided to bust our butts on the kids' tree fort. We've been working on it for quite some time now and we are super excited for them to see how much we've gotten done! They come home sometime this weekend, so we still have a few more days to work a bit more on it.

I'll post photos soon!

With love,
Mama Hauck

  1. I love that you two made the most of it when things didn't go as planned. It looks like you still had a good time.

That tree house kicks serious butt! I can tell you it's something I would have LOVED to have played in as a boy. You're amazing parents.
