Everywhere, All The Time.

The other morning, while waiting to be picked up for school, Anthony and I were talking and goofing around, trying to chase and stomp on our morning shadows just like we always do. Then out of the blue he got a bit somber and I asked what was wrong. We have always known Anthony to be on the sensitive side and a deep, thoughtful thinker. Our conversation that morning went like this:

"Mama, have we gone to church?
"Yes, when you were little and Molly was a baby."
"That's what I said. I said when I was little we went but (boy) laughed at me and said I was lying. Then (boy) said he goes and I'm a liar for saying I ever went because we don't go anymore and I'm bad because I don't."
"Hunny bunny, you are not a bad boy because we don't go to church......"

Alright, before I go any further, let me just say that you are more than welcome to disagree with me. I don't mind. This is just my opinion and my take on things and what I told my precious son.....

God is EVERYWHERE. Our family does not need to go sit in a church in order to have faith or feel closer to God. And we are not bad people because we don't go to church. I honestly don't think God cares if we don't go to church. God is in the breeze that's ruffling the leaves in the trees and He is in the sunshine that is beating down on our faces. He is in the dirt we walk on, the sweat we wipe from our brow after a days hard work, and the sunset we are so lucky to gaze upon in the evening.

God is also in our soul and in our actions. Be a good person with a kind heart. Love, judge not, and help when you can. Have faith in yourself, be honest and hard working, and lead a good life. All you have to do is open your heart to Him and He is there. There is your faith. There is your God. Nobody else's opinion need matter.

No, we don't go to church, and I am more than ok with that. If my children decide they would like to attend church when they are older, then they most certainly can.  I do not clip wings. My children are free to live, dream, and fly as they wish.

As for my family right now, our God is here.

We don't have to go anywhere in particular at any particular time. We simply just live our lives because our faith and our God is everywhere, all the time.

With love,
Mama Hauck

  1. This is what I have said and thought all along. I went to your Grandma's church with her last wednesday and declared it and was met with "some" disagreement. But that's OK I still feel as you do that God is evident all around us and if we have faith and act as such then he is with us even though we don't attend church. I walk "with" him every morning enjoying the beauty he has made. You said it well Daughter. I love you very much.

  2. I love this and feel the same way. My kids haven't really asked yet but I feel like it will come up eventually and I have planned what I will say to them when that time comes. Sitting in church just isn't for me but if they ultimately decide that is what they want then I will be supportive.
