Goldendale Fire Season

Almost exactly two years ago there was a fire near our home, it was called the Monastery Fire as it started near a Monastery just outside of Goldendale. I remember it so clearly because at the same time we were wondering if we were going to have to evacuate, we found out we were pregnant and were celebrating the new life growing in my belly.

We currently have another fire burning here near Goldendale, called the Mile Marker 28 Fire. This is just one of many that have already burned here in the Columbia Gorge area so far this fire season. This fire is in the same general area as the one from two years ago, but it has not grown close to us as the other one had. I think we will remain in the clear, though honestly anything is possible with the winds we get here. My friend and her family have been evacuated as it's right by her place.

(This IS my photo....taken from my yard.)

We are going to continue with our plans to head for the coast this morning. I've been looking forward to our beach trip since the day we got back from our beach trip last year! Grandma Hauck is going to stay home and watch the animals for us and will stay up to date on the fire. We'll come home if need be, but I think all will be well for us. Excited for the beach! See ya!

Catching Up

Wow, it is so hard to keep up with the blog during the summer months. It's just hard to carve out that time when the kids are out of school and we are going places and doing stuff. I'd rather nap during free time then get on the computer. ;) I have a lot of catching up to do!

Grandpa left on the 7th after spending two weeks with us. I told you this. What I didn't tell you was that Sammy also left on the 7th. I was playing single Mama for 9 days. During this time the kids and I had a bunch of fun play dates with our friends, I attended a wedding, and I celebrated my 27th birthday. We did something all but two of the days Papa was gone. We were busy for sure.

One story from my single Mama days.....my little Lucy (she's our chihuahua) got attacked by a coyote right in the front yard. I heard all the dogs barking (we have Lucy and two rot/german shepard mixes) in the yard and I look out the window in time to see a cloud of dust and a coyote running off with Lucy in it's mouth. One of our bigger dogs, Amber, shot out like a bullet and body slammed the coyote, making it drop Lucy. I was outside by this point and Lucy was running for me. Somehow the coyote managed to catch Lucy again and start off once more, but in its scuffle with Amber, Lucy was dropped again and finally made her way to me. Amber and I finished chasing the coyote off before I made it back to look Lucy over. She was covered in coyote drool, but there were no puncture wounds on her. She was pretty much traumatized though and sore for a few days....never allowing me to pick her up and screaming in pain when touched. She's completely fine now and back to her old self...but man was that a scary scene. Just two weeks prior Amber got bit by a rattlesnake and her face and neck got all swollen. She managed to be ok after an overnight stay at the vets and some meds.

Sometimes country living has its drawbacks. Love living where we do....but I'm forever being extra cautious when the kids and I are outside.

Anyway, so Sam was gone away in TX for work for a few days and then continued on his way to MN for another few days because he helped his mom pack up and move out to Goldendale. That's right....Grandma Hauck is in town!!

The kids are pretty excited about this, as am I. Grandma will be living with us here in our home until we are able to find a decent place in town for her. She and Sam got home Monday evening and we spent the rest of the evening as well as most of Tuesday unpacking stuff, getting a storage unit, getting Grandma settled in, etc. It'll be very nice having Grandma live in Goldendale. We're super excited to finally have some family here.

In other news, we head to the beach soon! Our yearly Oregon coast trip spent with some friends at their beach home is coming up in two weekends and I am SO excited. Love going to the beach....and Timothy will be old enough to play in the sand this time and I'm looking forward to getting some nice photos. I'll be sure to do a post all about our beach trip after we return.

Timothy did something super special for me on my birthday.....he finally said Mama....to me...and meant it! :) After months of the random mamamama, only done when he would cry, he finally made my heart swell when he looked right at me, said Mama, and meant it in the context of calling me name. So awesome. <3 nbsp="" span="">

Ok, I think I'm all caught up now. Hopefully I'll be a little bit better about posting.

Grandpa's Visit

Grandpa's 2 week visit came to an end today. Sammy took him to the airport this morning. I'm not feeling too well today....I've got a touch of the pukes....yuck!!.....so instead of a lot of writing telling you what we did, I'll just show you in photos. :) We had a lot of fun and enjoyed his visit very much!
